We had some amazing youth participate in the URoc! Challenge this year on May 5th. This challenge allows youth to recognize and thank youth friendly adults and businesses in our community!
This year, Nola wanted to recognize a youth friendly adult and had this to say: “I am celebrating a teacher at my school (Mrs.Dallas) because she has demonstrated hard work, compassion and drive to fulfill all her students needs. Mrs. Dallas always makes sure her students' goals are being met by surpassing expectations. She consistently goes the extra mile in all that she does and reflects a kind and understanding character.” Nola recognized Mrs. Dallas by giving her a gift, letter of appreciation, painted URoc rock, and a social media shout out! Way to go, Nola!
Avneet participated this year and wanted to recognize Leanne from the Abbotsford Hospice Society. She said, “I decided to honor Leanne, who is a kind and sweet person at the Abbotsford Hospice society working in the Children Services department. I met her in person at the beginning of April for my training to volunteer there and she immediately made me feel welcomed. Her working with kids on a daily is something I wanted to recognize because the connection she is able to develop is valuable. By acknowledging what she does for us as volunteers in training is also remarkable as she is patient, a great listener, and overall a generous individual devoting her time to prepare us to do what we are passionate about, and that is helping others by providing support. She always made everyone feel included and validated, therefore she is, in my opinion, a perfect example of a youth-friendly adult!” Avneet recognized Leanne with a URoc rock painted with butterflies and also her favourite candy: Haribo gummy bears! Awesome job, Avneet!
Adhiraj and Jordi wanted to recognize Let's Stick Together Co., a youth friendly non-profit organization who is supporting local healthcare workers through fundraisers selling multi-use stickers. They are a student initiative organization working to help the community. Adhiraj and Jordi recognized Lets Stick Together Co. with a social media shout out and a letter of appreciation! Nice work, boys! URoc!
